Julie & Julia

(2009) Comedy/drama with Meryl Streep
FRIDAY - February 22nd, at 12:00 noon

The film contrasts the life of chef Julia Childs in the early years of her culinary career with the life of a young New Yorker, Julie Powell. Julie decides to spice up her uneventful life by cooking all 524 recipes from Julia Childs’ classic cookbook, “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” in 365 days while blogging about her experiences. You will feel hunger pangs all the way through the film. Platters of boeuf bourguignon, sole meunière, fresh oysters and calf’s liver. All served with crusty baguettes and a dessert of fromage blanc. A nice story of two happily married women overcoming minor obstacles to find themselves as cooks and writers.

The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover

(1989) A British/French romantic, dark comedy and crime film

with Helen Mirren.
FRIDAY - February 22nd, at 5:00 pm

Set almost entirely in a French Restaurant, Le Hollandaise, this bold controversial film is a widely exuberant satanical examination of excess, bad taste and great acting. The film follows the exploits of a ruthless and barbaric British gangster whose long-suffering wife forges a relationship with one of the restaurants patrons behind his back. It boasts a full menu of a sumptuously grotesque story of sex, jealousy and eating.
This is a no-mercy assault on the mind and senses. Daring and shocking, not a film for the timid.  (Adults only)

An American remake of Ang Lee's “Eat Drink Man Woman”.
SATURDAY - February 23rd, at 5:00 pm

He cooks elaborate meals for his daughters that will make your mouth water. He tries to influence their decisions about career and romance with equal emphasis on taste buds and heartstrings. There is no doubt that food is a major player and that the film belongs in the cinematic category of culinary porn. “Tortilla Soup” is all about love for food and the love of family
